Library Read // Attack on Titan, Vol. 6 by Hajime Isayama

From the OverDrive description:

TITAN ON THE HUNT On the way to Eren's home, deep in Titan territory, the Survey Corps ranks are broken by a charge led by a female Titan! But this Abnormal is different - she kills not to eat but to protect herself, and she seems to be looking for someone. Armin comes to a shocking conclusion!

And with that I've hit 150 books read in 2020!

The whole arc of episodes that corresponds to this volume, Attack on Titan, Vol. 6, was a whole ride. That whole first season was paced near perfectly. I guess that's to say maybe the manga was also paced near perfectly? We start off with tragedy, ramp up on the wings of hope, more tragedy, than bittersweet victory. At this point we, we being our main cast, have set out with trepidation and hope into the next stage of escalation. START OF SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE ANIME: We're in the nitty gritty of sussing out the human-titans hiding in plain sight. END OF SPOILERS FOR NOW.

Starting from a place of high risk, high stakes, the payoff is just as high, and the story pushed just as far. I've outlined in previous reviews how I prefer detail-heavy chapters and volumes over fight-heavy ones. This is an exception. We got the thought process, the inner dialogues, but we also got the despair-filled and skilled fight scenes. The only thing holding me back from a series binge is the OverDrive queue. It's getting real good now! We're at a crucial moment! This volume ended with high tension and I'm eager to see how it's resolved. 5 stars from me.
