Weird, but I want more? [The Transporter (1. Nymph) by Tristan Roulot]

Art by Dimitri Armand.
Human life has been devastated by an unstoppable virus … Not a disease, but a chemical reaction that attacks iron, destroying everything that contains them and setting civilization back hundreds of years. It even affects the iron that is present in blood—enough to cause bizarre mutations and affect human fertility. Amid the resulting chaos, one man has set himself an unusual mission: to transport anything anywhere for anyone—for a price. But what he asks in return is no less mystifying than his self-appointed role… as the Transporter.

Where do I begin? So when I saw the title I thought of Jason Statham. When I read the plot I got Denzel in The Book of Eli vibes. Also maybe Walking Dead. Also maybe so many other dystopian, post-apocalyptic references.

Tristan Roulot's The Transporter (1. Nymph) is in a weird way. First off, Dimitri Armand's artwork was beautiful and enticing. To the story, we've got a mysterious man for hire, who's maybe a little overpowered. We've got a reversion to agrarian lifestyles complicated by the politics of small communities. But then there's this crazy fantastical mystery surrounding it all that kind of flips what was til then a meh story into a wild mystery. Being that the file I received was only 64 pages, and thereby I imagine the book numbering even less, this was too quick a read for me to go into any more detail, lest I spoil something. I'll just say that ending raised all the stakes and has me wanting more. 4 stars from me.

The Transporter (1. Nymph) was published July 2020.
