A proud plant mama myself, I'm especially eager to see houseplant focused books. I'm never quite sure what I'm looking for in books about plants. Mostly I hope to learn new things and feel inspired. Lisa Eldred Steinkopf's Houseplant Party gave me some new things to consider, but I don't know that the project included were anything I would call inspired.

The plant selection highlighted in the book was broader than most, a plus. Some of the projects were things I wouldn't have thought of, the t-shirt plant hanger for instance, but variations on a wooden box don't feel new or plant specific. Additionally the book read with a voice I found too absolute and authoritative. This is the type of book I'd most prefer to borrow from a library, not buy. I might recommend it to someone looking to get into plants via decor and DIY projects, but not for the general plant lover. 3 stars from me.

Houseplant Party is to be published August 04, 2020.
